JACKSON, Miss.–The person in charge right now at the state Dept. of Education is actually only temporary, but very soon there could be someone else selected for state superintendent of education. The state board said Monday they’ve narrowed the list down to five candidates.
Lynn House has been serving since Tom Burnham retired in July 2012.
The state board hired a professional firm, Ray and Associates, to help in the search. They originally found 64 people and then narrowed the list down to eleven, based on their qualifications and background. The eleven are from Georgia, Massachusetts, Missouri, Mississippi, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin.
Since then, they’ve narrowed the list down even further to five, but they aren’t saying just now who those five are.
The interviews will be Tuesday, Sept. 24, according to a press release from the state Dept. of Education. There could possibly be another round of interviews the next day and the big announcement is expected in October.
“I think the process has gone very well, and the Board was pleased with the candidates,” said Board Vice Chariman Hal Gage. “Ray and Associates brought us a strong group of candidates, and I’m looking forward to the interviews.”
