A lockdown at a Gulfport Middle School has been lifted.

Officers with the Gulfport PD responded to North Gulfport Middle School earlier today after they received a call “of someone hearing gunshots”. The post from the Harrison County School District stated that the school remained under lockdown while officers conducted their search.

After an initial investigation, no threat was detected and the lockdown was lifted after about an hour. The district’s post was updated to indicate that all involved were safe.

“North Gulfport Middle School received the all clear and the school is no longer under lockdown. All of our students, teachers and staff are safe.”

This is the second threat to be investigated at the school in as many days. Yesterday, the school was made aware of a potential threat, but no credible threat was found.

Police presence at the school had been heightened following the threat. This is one of several lockdowns that have occurred across the state in the days following the Parkland shooting.
