Bike, Blues, & Bayous

GREENWOOD

August 2

The 7th annual Bikes, Blues & Bayous bicycle tour is presented by the Money Road Cycling Club and the Greenwood-Leflore County Chamber of Commerce. There will be a 20 mile, 46 mile and 62 mile “Metric Century” route. The rides will begin at 7am on Front Street in historic downtown Greenwood, Mississippi, the primary filming location of 2011’s Oscar-winning movie, The Help. Over 700 people are expected to participate. There will be rest stops along the ride where you will be welcomed with great food, hospitality, and entertainment. There is also a big party afterwards.

Art-er Limits Fringe Festival

 OXFORD

 August 1-2

Downtown Oxford opens up its doors to performance art and interactive workshops at the Art-er Limits Fringe Festival. The Festival is centered around the idea that art can be interactive. There are 18 different venues featuring 82 different events including workshops, demonstrations, performances and shows that can only be seen during this one weekend.

Wildlife Extravaganza

JACKSON

August 1-3

The Mississippi Wildlife Federation (MWF) presents the Wildlife Extravaganza at the Mississippi Trademart. This is Mississippi’s big kickoff for hunting season. The big tradeshow takes place at the Mississippi Trademart at the State Fairgrounds and will feature nearly 200 vendors from all across North America. There are also kids’ activities and events such as: archery shooting, and informational seminars.

End of Summer Jam

JACKSON

August 2

The Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium in Jackson hosts the End of Summer Jam Featuring rap artists Lil Boosie, French Montana, Webbie, and Yo Gotti. Tickets are $20. You can get tickets here.

Grand Reopening of the Biloxi Maritime and Seafood Industry Museum

BILOXI

August 2-3

The grand reopening of the Biloxi Maritime and Seafood Industry Museum starts at 9 am Saturday morning. It will feature historical character re-enactments, includin gthe Hermit of Deer Island, the Wreck of Emma Harvey, the Founding Fathers of Biloxi’s Seafood Industry and others. The Museum was established in 1986 to preserve and interpret the maritime history and heritage of Biloxi and the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
