Madison Co Judge Accused of Using Racial Slur, Hitting Black Man, Indicted

MADISON COUNTY, Miss. — A Madison County Justice Court Judge has been indicted on a charge of simple assault of a vulnerable person.

Judge Bill Weisenberger recused himself from the bench last summer after police began investigating claims he hit a mentally challenged black man and yelled a racial slur at him at the Canton Flea Market on May 8, 2014.

According to the indictment, Weisenberger did “purposefully, knowingly, willfully, unlawfully and feloniously cause bodily injury to James Rivers, a vulnerable person… by striking him in the head.”

Weisenberger turned himself in to police Thursday and is currently free on a $10,000 bond.  His trial is set for June 8.
