JACKSON, Miss. – Mississippians are taking home more money than they did last year. According to the U.S. Commerce Department, the average personal income for residents grew 0.9 percent in the first quarter of 2015.
That is equal to the national average and ranks 29th among other U.S. states.
Personal income is a compilation of income recieved from every different souce, whether is be personal income, government benefits or stock market returns.
Some of the most growth in personal income was found in employees working in either construction, manufacturing, health care, social assistance or retail trade sectors.
Iowa had the lowest average personal income growth with a 1.2 percent decline. Florida had the highest with a 1.3 percent increase.
