Man Who Ex-Sheriff Mike Byrd Kicked in the Groin Gets Three Years Behind Bars

JACKSON COUNTY, Miss. — The man former Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd admitted to attacking while under arrest will serve three years behind bars for stealing a patrol car and feeling. John Mark Stahl led deputies on a 17 mile chase from Jackson County to Mobile County, Alabama back in 2012. He plead guilty this week.

Court records show Byrd kicked Stahl twice in the groin while he was handcuffed and unresisting. Byrd also admitted to getting another officer to wipe his patrol car’s dashboard camera. Since, Byrd has plead guilty to those felony charges which is why he’s no longer  Sheriff. He will be sentenced in March.

Stahl is expected to file a civil suit against Byrd.
