Man Sentenced to 17 Years for Abusing 5-Month-Old Baby

HARRISON COUNTY, Miss.- A Moss Point man was sentenced to 17 years of jail time after he plead guilty to felony child abuse Wednesday.

Terry Lee Seaman, 30, was arrested in 2012 after police were called to Memorial Hospital where a 5-month-old child appeared to have been beaten and was being treated for injuries to one leg and both arms.

WLOX reported, District Attorney Joel Smith said Seaman left the infant in his car while the child’s mother was at work. When the mother returned home from work, she found bruises on the child and rushed the baby to the emergency room.

Smith said Seaman told police he had dropped the child once on the floor, but doctors said the injuries were as if the child had been in a car crash. Seaman told Harrison County Circuit Court Judge Roger Clark that he was on drugs at the time of the crime, and could not remember much.

The child has made a full recovery from all of the injuries, Smith said.

Seaman was sentenced to 17 years for felony child abuse and will be placed on probation for five years once he is released from prison.
