MDHS to issue SNAP benefits early

The Mississippi Department of Human Services will be issuing their March as April benefits early to help out the program’s recipients. Due to January’s government shutdown, MDHS issued their February SNAP benefits early.

“In order to shorten the amount of time between the February, March, and April benefit issuance dates, MDHS has made adjustments to our normal issuance schedule,” said a statement from MDHS Director John Davis.

MDHS will issue ALL March and April 2019 benefits as follows:

  • March 2019 issuance date for ALL clients:  March 4th, 2019.
  • April 2019 issuance date for ALL clients:  April 12th, 2019.

Davis clarified that the benefits will not expire for another 12 months.

“Once issued and available on your EBT card, your SNAP benefits are available for food purchases for one year after the date they are issued,” Davis said. “You do not have to spend the entire benefit amount during the month it is issued.”
