The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) Fisheries Bureau and the Mississippi State University Extension Service will host pond management workshops in Adams and Forrest Counties. The workshops will be held at the Adams County Extension Office located at 75A Carthage Point Road in Natchez and the Paul B. Johnson State Park office located at 319 Geiger Lake Road in Hattiesburg. Both workshops will take place on Tuesday, April 2 at 6 p.m.

The hour-long presentation will include topics on pond design, fish stocking, harvest, vegetation control, liming, and fertilization. A question-and-answer period will follow. Anyone interested in attending the workshop is asked to register by calling the Adams County Extension Office at (601) 445-8201 or the Forrest County Extension Office at (601) 545-6083.

“This workshop will allow biologists and private pond owners the opportunity to discuss management options to improve fish populations and habitat,” said MDWFP Fisheries Biologist Ryan Jones. “We talk with people each year who want to manage their ponds effectively and this is a great way for us to provide how-to information that can help pond owners achieve their goals.”
