The head football coach at Meridian High School has been placed on leave.

A report from the Meridian Star indicates that an alleged nude photo of head coach Martez Edwards recently began circulating on social media, and a brief statement from the school district explains that an investigation into the matter has begun.

“The Meridian Public School District is aware of the inappropriate photo circulating of an MPSD employee. The employee has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation by the school district.”

At this time, it is unknown who originally posted the photo or why it was shared.

Edwards was hired in January to replace Calvin Hampton, who resigned after the team finished with a 4-7 record last season.

News Mississippi has reached out to Athletic Director Chuck Butler and others within the district for comment, but our calls have not been returned.
