The Mississippi Forestry Commission has deployed two additional bulldozer strike teams to Texas, where they will be dispatched to assist state and federal partners with wildfire suppression efforts.

Five MFC Wildland Firefighters were headed to Childress, Texas over the weekend, with five more assigned as Initial Attack on new wildfires near Victoria, Texas.

Their names will be released upon their safe return home to Mississippi in approximately two weeks.

“We appreciate our employees taking part in these efforts to help our state and federal partners in Texas,” said State Forester Charlie Morgan. “Fighting the destructive power of wildfire means that our Wildland Firefighters are working in extreme conditions protecting people’s lives, homes, and forestland. “We are proud of their service and look forward to their safe return home in approximately two weeks.”

According to recent reports, the Texas A&M Forest Service said that the Mallard wildfire has burned approximately 60,000 acres in Armstrong County.
