MIRA Rallies for Same Tuition Costs for Immigrant Students

JACKSON, Miss.- Mississippi Immigrant Rights Alliance held a rally at the Capitol Wednesday to show support for undocumented students wanting to attend college.

MIRA says, all students, undocumented or not, that grew up in Mississippi should be allowed to pay the same tuition prices. Currently, undocumented students from Mississippi have to pay the same rate as an out-of-state student to attend a Mississippi school of higher education.

Undocumented student Adrian Gamboa said, “We are graduating high school with our friends that are going straight to a university, straight to college and we can’t do the same because we can’t afford to pay twice, sometimes three times as much as they’re paying only because we’re undocumented, even if we grew up in Mississippi.”

MIRA hopes state representatives will support the bill for equal tuition for all, undocumented and documented students.
