Miss. News Briefs: A Reason to Check for ID Theft, Weird Ways to Get Shot

JACKSON, Miss.–You may need to check your credit history and you may need to make sure ID isn’t stolen if you saw a Community Health Systems doctor in Mississippi. It’s a data breach and hackers have been able to get some of your info. Here’s that and some better news to kick start your Monday:

HOSPITAL INFO WARNING
If you’ve been to a Community Health Systems doctor or hospital, you should check your credit history. It’s a data breach and Atty. Gen. Jim Hood reminding you that if you got a letter saying your personal info was stolen by hackers, you need to make sure they’re not using it.

FUNERAL FOR SANDRONI
Funeral services today for Stan Sandroni, long-time Ole Miss broadcaster and host of Rebel Yell. He died last week of a heart attack. Sandroni was 64.

GODWIN GROUP BUSINESSMAN DIES
Businessman Danny Mitchell has died. WAPT reported the former head of the Godwin Group died of a heart attack Sunday. He was 66.

CHEAPER GAS
Getting gas for less than three bucks. Never thought you’d see that again, huh? Now there’s plenty of places to do that with the state average at $3.11 today. Southaven, Meridian, Tupelo, Leland, Horn Lake, Gautier, all have it. The cha ching award for most expensive is Hernando at $3.69.

BLAST TO THE BELLY
A blast to the belly with a shotgun could definitely kill you, but this guy from Newton County lived and is in the hospital. Just what got him shot with a 12 gauge, the Newton County sheriff tells WTOK that Orlando Smith was trying to bust into his girlfriend’s house and she let him have it. That was after a whole week of threats and abuse. He’s in intensive care.

SHOT BUT WON’T TATTLE
If somebody shot you, would you keep your mouth shut? It’s a problem for police in Meridian after a person was shot in the are and drove to the hospital. The cops came, but, even though the victim had a hole from a bullet, they weren’t tattlin, reported WTOK. So, no arrests yet.

SHOT IN THE FACE
Just imagine getting shot in the face. Well, a guy who had that happen to him may have earned it Sunday morning. Jackson Police say the 28-year-old was busting into someone’s car and had gone up into their garage when the homeowner’s son let him have it. The suspected burglar is licking his wounds in the hospital.

TRAILER FIRE KILLS WOMAN
Flames shooting out of a trailer in Jones County against the night sky. That was Friday and Orell Craft, 70 didn’t make it out. Neighbor were able to get her husband out, though, and he’s in the hospital.
