Mississippi Gone Grey: Advance Tickets for ’50 Shades of Grey’ Selling Fastest in the Bible Belt

JACKSON, Miss– ’50 Shades of Grey’ doesn’t even come out for another week. But according to Fandango.com, Mississippians are buying into the hype in advance. Pre-sold tickets are selling quicker in the Bible Belt than anywhere else in the country. Mississippi folks are buying four times the expected amount of tickets to see the film. The theater in Tupelo has already sold out for the Valentine’s Day opening.

The film, which some regard as pornography due to the BDSM nature of the book, is stirring controversy across the globe. The movie is banned in Malaysia, as officials there say it is more like a porn than a movie.

Highlighting the sexual relationship between the two main characters, the movie is 100 minutes long, with 20 minutes of sex.  The original idea for the ’50 Shades of Grey’ trilogy written by E.L. James was to be a fan-fiction for the ‘Twilight’ series. Many parallels are found between the books.
