Mississippi State Adds Grad Transfer Quarterback Tommy Stevens From Penn State

Mississippi State made a play for a graduate transfer back in the fall, eventually losing out on Clemson’s Kelly Bryant as he headed to Missouri. The Bulldogs got a second chance when Tommy Stevens announced his intention to leave Penn State in April, and this time, Joe Moorhead got his man. Stevens announced on Friday he would be heading to Starkville for his final year of eligibility.

Stevens played sparingly at Penn State behind All Big 10 quarterback Trace McSorley, completing 58% of his passes and averaging nearly 7 yards per carry rushing. He will enter a quarterback room with Keytaon Thompson, Jalen Mayden, and Garrett Shrader, and will be the odds-on favorite to be the Bulldogs’ starter when the season begins August 31 in New Orleans against the University of Louisiana. Joe Moorhead had the following to say regarding his new quarterback. “We look forward to Tommy joining our team and completing his final year of eligibility as a Mississippi State Bulldog, Tommy is very talented and will be an excellent addition to our roster. He will have the opportunity to compete at quarterback this season. With nearly 100 days until kickoff, we are excited about our summer preparations as we continue to build a program that will make Mississippi State fans proud.”
