Mississippi State’s Teaira McCowan Goes Third in the WNBA Draft to the Indiana Fever

Teaira McCowan spent the last four years at Mississippi State rewriting the school’s record books and being part of an unprecedented era of success for Vic Schaefer’s teams. Today, she takes the next step in her basketball career, as she was taken with the 3rd pick of the WNBA Draft, heading to the Indiana Fever for the 2019 season.

McCowan was a consensus All-American following her senior season, which saw her lead the Bulldogs to a SEC regular season and conference tournament title, followed by an Elite Eight appearance. McCowan averaged 18.3 points, 13.5 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks for her senior year, earning her SEC Player of the Year Honors. McCowan will join her former teammate Victoria Vivians in Indiana, w ho was selected 8th by the Fever a year ago and will miss the upcoming season with a torn ACL. McCowan becomes the fifth Bulldog taken in the first ten selections of the WNBA Draft, joining Vivians, Latoya Thomas (1st in 2003), Tan White (2nd in 2005), and Chanel Mokongo (9th in 2010).
