Mississippi Weekend: Dog adoption, crafts, and gumbo

This weekend, the Second North Mississippi Adoption Event is being held at the Arena in Southaven where you can rescue a dog on Saturday, from 10 to 4 p.m. and if you can’t adopt a dog there are still ways that you can participate. The event will include working dog demonstrations, pet related businesses and animal advocacy groups along with tons of food and fun.

In Jackson, Mississippi Treasurer Lynn Fitch’s office will be at the Mississippi Children’s Museum to help kids build coin banks and give parents information on how to sign up for a 5-2-9 college savings plan. Admission to the museum will be discounted for all guests to just five dollars and twenty-nine cents. They will also have drawings for scholarships at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

In South Mississippi, be sure to visit the 36th Annual Biloxi Seafood Festival. Attendees will enjoy live entertainment, arts and crafts, kids activities and the best seafood on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. On Sunday, people can taste professional and amateur gumbo from teams competing for the Peoples’ Choice and Best of Show Awards.
