Mississippi Weekend: Magnolia state birthday, music, food

If you’re looking for music to shake you up, head to Cleveland to see Sweet Crude. The young 6-piece composed of New Orleans musicians is creating a sound that sets English and Louisiana’s native French dialect to decidedly non-Cajun music. You’ve heard some of their music on American Horror Story.

If it’s sweet and smoky Barbecue you’re after, head to Jackson for the Jacktown Throwdown Barbecue contest at the Mississippi Ag Museum. The Kansas City Barbecue Society presents the contest featuring teams from all over the country. All proceeds benefit local charities.

Celebrate the 200th birthday of Mississippi with Mississippi Celebration Bicentennial South.

The weekend will feature local and internationally renowned artists, interactive exhibits, parade, salute to  education and the military, Corporate Village, Taste of Mississippi food court, and Craft Beer hall.

The Band Perry will headline on Saturday.
