November employment numbers near historic high

In November the Mississippi Department of Employment Security says the number of jobs in Mississippi rose by 3,900 from October to 1,172,800 which are the most jobs ever recorded in Mississippi.

Mississippi’s unemployment rate in November was 4.7%, the third lowest level of unemployment ever recorded in Mississippi. The number of jobs in Mississippi increased by 2,800 in November. Over the year since November 2017, the number of jobs in the state increased by 14,100.

The November rate is the same as a month earlier in October 2018 and one-tenth of a percentage, point lower than a year ago in November 2017, when the rate was 4.8%. The Labor Force, which is made up of everyone who has a job or is looking for a job, declined in November by 2,200 to 1,284,300, however, over the year since November 2017, the Labor Force rose by 6,800.

The number of unemployed Mississippians fell by 700 in November to 60,100. Over the year since November 2017, the number of unemployed Mississippians is down by 700. While the number of people working in Mississippi declined in November by 1,500 to 1,224,200, since November 2017, employment in Mississippi has increased by 7,500.
