Ole Miss Announces New Preferred Chancellor Candidate

OXFORD, MISS– The University of Mississippi says Jeffrey Vitter is the preferred candidate for the position of Chancellor at Ole Miss.

“He is a scholar… a world class scholar,” says Alan Perry with IHL.

Perry stresses that Vitter is the preferred candidate, and the action to make him chancellor will not happen until there is a “campus-wide conversation.”

Vitter is expected on campus next week.

Perry names a laundry list of items that makes Vitter the right candidate for the job.

Monday, an “emergency” meeting of the state college board was held at 8 a.m. in Jackson. After a brief executive session, the meeting was adjourned.

“There were some I guess some negotiations and conversations that needed to take place more than anything,” said Dr. Glenn Boyce, college board president.

The board president later revised his statement and said there were important conversations happening.

Vitter replaces Dan Jones, whose contract was not renewed.
