Sydney Hedberg, author of Barneys, Bergdorfs & Bill$ will be on the Ole Miss campus to sign copies of her book which she said she got the idea for after she graduated from Ole Miss back in 2015 when her friends came to her asking financial questions after they graduated and began to get jobs.

“Parents were telling them they needed to go buy their own insurance, and jobs were offering them 401k plans and wondering how to invest,” said Hedberg. “They just seemed overwhelmed that all of this was landing in their laps. It occurred to me, why is there not something simple out there that lays it all out, not overwhelming, just the basics of financials and budgeting.”

The books covers 30 different topics ranging from inflation, to applying for a credit card, stocks and bonds.

Hedberg added that writing is not her bread and butter. She also works in New York for an insurance broker on the oil and gas side.

She said that she is not currently thinking about a new book, but that her focus is to empower women so that they feel confident with managing their finances.

“Let me just help somebody in some small way and ease their mind about something that can be very overwhelming  like managing your own finances,” said Hedberg. “It’s to empower girls that they can do it on their own and doesn’t just have to be a husband doing it, or your dad, or an accountant.”

Hedberg will be signing books from 8:00 – 10:00 a.m. in the grove, in front of Farley Hall on the Ole Miss campus.
