In 2010 longtime mascot for the University of Mississippi, Colonel Reb., was taken off the field and replaced with the Black Bear. Now, students will have the chance to change the mascot again.

Ole Miss students now have until Friday to vote on the potential new mascot.

Associated Student Body President Dion Kevin III announced in a newsletter that the student body will vote on September 26 for a new mascot.

The school is still known as the “Rebs” but on the sideline the black bear takes over. This vote would be between the bear and the “Landshark,” that was the runner up in the 2010 vote.

The landshark is based on football player Tony Fein’s “fins up” motion during a historic upset between Ole Miss and the Tim Tebow-led Florida Gators back in 2008.

Kevin encouraged students to vote “Yes” for the landshark next week for a chance to leave a legacy of unity and excitement for the university.
