Open Carry Ruling Expected Friday

JACKSON, Miss.–A ruling on the controversial open-carry law is expected Friday to be decided.

Hinds County Circuit Judge Winston Kidd should rule whether or not the injunction he placed on the law at the 11th hour will remain, or be lifted.

Opponents to the law have said the language is too vague but proponents say the right to open-carry a firearm has been in the constitution for well over 100 years.

“The law is consistent with the constitution,” said Miss. House Representative Mark Baker of District 74 who is a supporter of the law.

Numerous signs have already been seen going up in private businesses around the state forbidding people who want to open carry in their stores from doing so.

“The law is the law, we are an open carry law and the constitution is clear,” said Baker.

If the injunction is upheld and open carry is still put on hold the case will go to the Mississippi Supreme Court according to Baker.
