Oppressive heat index reaches 111: 7-5-18

Here’s a quick rundown of the weather today across Mississippi.

In north Mississippi, there is an excessive heat warning in effect until 8 p.m. this evening. Today, mostly sunny with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs will be in the mid-90s. Heat index readings will range from 106 to 111. Tonight, partly cloudy skies with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. Lows will be in the mid-70s.

In central Mississippi, mostly sunny today with patchy fog in the morning and a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms during the day. Highs will be in the lower to mid-90s and “feels like” temperatures will be anywhere from 101 to 106. In the evening, mostly clear with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in the evening. There will also be some areas of fog after midnight. Lows will dip down into the lower 70s.

In south Mississippi, partly sunny with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in the morning and continuing into the afternoon. Highs will be in the lower 90s. Highest heat index readings will be around 100 or 102. At night, partly cloudy skies expected with a chance of showers and thunderstorms after midnight. Lows will drop down into the mid-70s.
