Phone scam from the “grandkids”

The phone rings and the voice on the other end says they need grandma’s help because they’re in a bind and need cash fast. Don’t be fooled, officials said it’s a scam.

Be aware that a phone scam is circulating especially in north Mississippi and targeting the elderly.

The scammers are calling and claiming a grandchild has been involved in an accident or arrest and need money sent immediately.

“These scammers are playing on the fears and emotion of grandparents in hopes that they can steal from them,” said Northern District Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley. “We are committed to working with the Federal Trade Commission in stopping this outrageous scam.”
