Picking up Litter; Spring Cleaning in Desoto County

HERNANDO, Miss.- Spring is in full swing and so is the cleaning. Desoto County has declared “war on litter” and is enlisting volunteers to haul trash to bins at 14 sites across the nation over the next two weeks, and to keep the effort going year-round.

According to the Commercial Appeal, the annual Countywide Spring Cleanup kicks off Saturday and ends Easter Sunday, April 4.

They’ll be taking up old furniture and mattresses, lumber, carpet, bricks, limbs, metal, plastic toys, fencing and yard, attic and garage rubbish in general.

Items not allowed are aerosols, all-purpose cleaners, antifreeze, batteries, tires, insecticides and herbicides, oil, paint and electronics. These items will be picked up during the county’s annual fall haul-off of hazardous waste.
