Police Chase From Alcorn State Ends in Fiery Crash, Death of a Woman

PHOTO: MHP

LORMAN, Miss.–A car driven by an Alcorn State student hit a tree and exploded Tuesday around 5:30 as it was being chased by Campus Police. Both people in the car were thrown out when it hit the tree and one of those people is dead.

She is ID’d as Rikessa Lee of Webb.

The Highway Patrol said it started when Khalil Abdurrahman, 26, of Greenville, who was driving the car, was stopped at the guard gate by police when they smelled pot coming from the car. Then, Abdurrahman apparently hit the gas and took off down Hwy. 552 west, which actally heads north away from campus, and toward the Mississippi River.

On the way off of campus, Abdurrahman nearly hit another campus police car.

Abdurrahman’s car hit a tree and that’s when he and Lee were thrown out and the car exploded.

Traffic was shut down on the highway, according to MHP. It is now back open.

Abdurrahman lived and was taken to UMMC. It is unclear what charges he may face when he gets out of the hospital.
