Police Time Share

TUPELO, Miss. – Tupelo police, to help the officer wounded while responding to a bank robbery, want him to have their sick leave.

Officer Joseph Maher is still in the hospital and has a long road to getting well again. His fellow officers fear the five year veteran has not earned enough sick leave to ensure he still gets paid while recovering.  Some, who have been on the force longer, say they have time to share.  The Tupelo City Council is expected to consider their offer Tuesday night.

Marion Garnett, the man who shot Maher the week of Christmas, also killed police Sgt. Kevin Gale Stauffer.  The FBI says Garnett was later shot and killed by Phoenix police after robbing an Arizona bank.
