Posthumous Purple Heart Bestowed to Widow of U-S Marshal

JACKSON, Miss. – The Deputy U.S. Marshal from Mississippi, shot and killed in the line of duty, has been awarded a Purple Heart.

It was presented to the wife of Josie Wells earlier this week during a ceremony in Virginia.  Wells, 27, was killed in March while trying  to arrest a Louisiana man who was wanted for the murders of a brother and sister. Wells had been with the U.S. Marshal Service since 2011.
