UPDATE 12:50: With power outages across portions of Mississippi, MEMA has provided a map to see what areas are involved.

UPDATE: As of 11:30 a.m. Southern Pine Electric is reporting approximately 2,300 power outages. Jason Siegfried, CEO of Southern Pine Electric said that they have 150 people out in the field currently and another 20 crews on their way to help restore power to their customers.

“This is definitely the worst outage event that we have had since Hurricane Katrina,” Siegfried said.

Siegfried added that he wouldn’t be surprised if there were still a number of outages come Sunday afternoon.

As snow continues to pile up, power is going down across the state. MEMA director Greg Flynn stated that one of their main concerns was the loss of power due to falling branches and trees.

Power companies are beginning to feel the effects of winter weather as nearly 6,000 Entergy Customers are without power.

Mississippi Power is reporting that just under 6,700 of their customers are currently expecting outages.
