Promotion from President to Commissioner of MS Higher Learning

JACKSON, Miss. – Mississippi University for Women President Jim Borsig has been named Mississippi’s new Commissioner of Higher Education.

“Dr. Borsig brings more than 30 years of experience in higher education and policy, all in Mississippi, to the position,” said Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL) Trustee Board President Aubrey Patterson.  “In addition, he has the experience of leading a campus and understands the challenges and opportunities our universities face today.  His skills and experience make him the best choice to lead the university system at this time and to continue and accelerate the progress being made.”

> A Jackson native, Borsig has served as President of The W since January 2012.  “I am leaving a job I love to serve a System I believe in,” he said.  “I look forward to the continuing work of the public university system to advance Mississippi.”

Borsig will begin serving as Commission on April 15, replacing Dr. Hank Bounds.  IHL Trustees said they would soon announce a timeline for the search a new President for The W.
