PULL OVER: Hyundai & KIA issuing recall on 1.5 million cars

The South Korean automakers recalling the majority of those cars & SUVs in the US and Canada. Reports of engines failing and stalling have prompted the move. Investigations conclude that debris left over from manufacturing can block oil lines, leading to rod bearings to seize within the engine. The recall will involve replacing the entire engine block.

The specific model years involved in the US are the 2013-2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport and Sonata, 2011-2014 Kia Optimas, 2012-2014 Kia Sorentos, and 2011-2013 Kia Sportages. All of the problem engines were made at Hyundai’s plant in Montgomery, Alabama.

The recall will officially begin on May 22, and Hyundai says it knows of no injuries or crashes related to the problem. The companies say they will alert customers and dealers, but you can check your VIN at this website to keep up with recalls.
