Ships in Syrian strike have Mississippi ties

Navy destroyers Ross and Porter were used to fire 58 tomahawk missiles at a Syrian airbase on Thursday.

The attack was launched at the word of President Donald Trump following chemical attacks against Syrian civilians.

Both of the destroyers, based out of Spain, are capable of traveling up to 30 knots according to Military.com.

Governor Phil Bryant said the two ships were built in Pascagoula.

“Both U.S. Navy destroyers used to launch Tomahawk missiles against Syria this week were manufactured by the greatest shipbuilders in the world at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, MS,” the Governor posted to Facebook. “Mississippi’s influence can be felt all across the world. The men and women at Ingalls are building the most advanced warships on the planet each day.”
