Ridgeland man sentenced for possession of child porn

RIDGELAND, Miss. – 70-year-old David L. Nelson was sentenced on charges of possession of child pornography, according to a post on Attorney General Jim Hood’s Facebook page.

Nelson was found guilty of five counts of child exploitation and was sentenced on Monday by a Madison County Circuit Court Judge.

Nelson received 40 years in prison with 35 suspended. That means he will serve a max of five years behind bars. He will have five years of post-release supervision. He was also ordered to pay $1,000 to the Mississippi Children’s Trust Fund another $1,000 to the Mississippi Crime Victim Compensation Fund, and $5,000 in fines.

He will have to register as a sex offender.

Nelson was arrested on Feb. 9 at his home when an investigation showed that he was trading child pornography online.

“Children are re-victimized every time a criminal views or shares images of child exploitation, and we are seeking to put an end to this cycle of abuse,” Attorney General Hood said. “I want to extend my thanks to our law enforcement officers and investigators who work tirelessly to protect children both here in Mississippi and elsewhere.”
