HATTIESBURG, Miss.- Police officials have weighed in on rumors of heightened gang activity in the Hattiesburg and Lamar areas.
Lamar County Sheriff Danny Rigel said due to recent social media posts communities are concerned about gang activity rising in the area due to tension across the nation. He released a public statement via Facebook about the rumored threats.
The posts in question are not verified but officers in Hattiesburg and Lamar will be patrolling as usual tonight.
Residents are asked to be aware of their surroundings at all times.
