School Bus Hit by an 18-Wheeler

MADISON, Miss.- An 18-wheeler hit the back of a Madison County school bus coming back from a field trip.

The bus had students and chaperons riding in it going to Luther Branson Elementary School this afternoon on I-55 when it was hit.

Madison County School Superintendent Ronnie McGeehee said,”Thank goodness no one was seriously injured. All the students were in great shape. We do have three adults, teachers and chaperons, we did transport, but we don’t feel like it was anything serious; we just want to check them out for safety.”

The truck driver told WAPT at the scene, that the bus driver tried to stop to dodge an orange construction cone in the road, which led to the collision. The truck driver said he couldn’t stop in time to avoid hitting the bus.

McGeehee said he wasn’t exactly sure how it happened. “I just know the 18-wheeler was traveling North on I-55 when he rear ended the bus.”

The students were all checked out and loaded onto another bus to take them back to school. There were no serious injuries reported.

Mcgeehee said, “Buses nowadays are very safe to travel in and we’re thankful we don’t have any injuries in a situation like this.”
