This week, though it is only week 2 of the season, there were 5 big rival games to follow.

Warren Central at Pearl

FINAL SCORE: Pearl 28, Warren Central 21

While Pearl entered week 2 rated as the number one team in the state, Warren Central had won the previous two matchups with the Pirates. But home turf made the difference, and Pearl brought in the win.

Oxford at Starkville

FINAL SCORE: Starkville 28, Oxford 21 in 2/OT

When you think of Oxford and Starkville, you may think Ole Miss and Mississippi State. But the Chargers and the Yellowjackets have a big rivalry game tonight that shows that the Rebs and Dawgs aren’t the only ones fueling a feud.

“The Little Egg Bowl–this is one of those rivalry games. It doesn’t matter about the record, or what anyone did last week or last year. It’s about who wants it bad enough,” said Dixon Williams, Sports Director for Telesouth Communications.

It took double overtime for Starkville to clench the title this year, making it the fourth season in a row for them to keep The Little Egg.

West Point at Louisville

FINAL SCORE: West Point 27, Louisville 7

Another matchup between two winning teams: West Point at Louisville. The Green wave will meet the Wildcats on the Gridiron with both teams celebrating blow out wins last week.

“This is another kind of a grudge match,” said Williams. “West Point has had a couple of good seasons the last couple of years and some people are coming back.”

West Point proved they had what it takes to take down Louisville. Next week, they face Starkville at West Point.

Hattiesburg at Laurel

FINAL SCORE: Hattiesburg 20, Laurel 14

“The battle for the Little Brown Jug,” said Williams. “This has been an interesting series, because record doesn’t matter. Whether you’re between the bricks in Laurel or at Patrick Stadium in Hattiesburg–it’s going to be a battle between those two and it will not be over until that final buzzer sounds.”
