UPDATE: Tornado warning issued for part of central Mississippi

UPDATE: 10:14 a.m.: A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Stafford Springs, or 14 miles southwest of Quitman, moving east at 40 mph. This could result in flying debris that would be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. There could also be damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles. Tree damage is likely. The storm/tornado will be near Goodwater and Barnett around 10:15 a.m. De Soto around 10:30 a.m and near Quitman around 10:35 a.m.

UPDATE: 10 a.m.: the National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for South East Jasper County and Western Clarke County.

The National Weather Service and Mississippi’s Emergency Management Agency are warning of severe thunderstorms across portions of central Mississippi.

The effected areas include Leake, Madison, Scott and Rankin Counties. People in those areas could see damage to their roofs, siding and trees due to the high winds.
