Sexual Harassment Case Against Ex-Jackson County Sheriff on Next Year’s Docket

PASCAGOULA, Miss. – A 2015 trial date has been set in the sexual harassment lawsuit against Jackson County, former sheriff Mike Byrd, the county’s insurer and up to ten unnamed defendants.

Sgt. Kristen Seibert, who worked for Byrd, claims he made improper and unwanted sexual advances towards her.  Her complaint also alleges that her life was threatened by department Captain Mike Sears after she testified before a grand jury in Byrd’s obstruction of justice case which ended with Byrd’s guilty pleas to state and federal charges.

Seibert’s case is scheduled to go to trial September 7, 2015.  She is seeking $500,000 in damages or the maximum amount covered by insurance, whichever is greater.

Her suit is one of ten that’s been filed against Jackson County and Byrd collectively seeking about $1 billion in damages related to alleged investigative misdeeds and cover-ups by Byrd and his administrative team.
