Sexual Harassment: Why A Former Sheriff is Paying the Price

JACKSON COUNTY, MISS– Former Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd will have to pay a woman $260,000 in damages after pressuring her while she worked for him in 2013.

Sgt. Kristan Siebert pressed charges against Byrd just a couple of weeks after Byrd was sentenced for intimidating a witness in another case, reports the Sun-Herald. Siebert claimed that Byrd was making sexual advances at work, then threatening to move her to a lower position when she rejected him.

Byrd stepped down from office in 2013 after numerous legal troubles including intimidation of witnesses and ordering the destruction of videotape evidence that showed Byrd assaulting a man.
