LEAKESVILLE, Miss. – Those seven correctional officers, attacked by inmates at the South Mississippi Correctional Institution in Leakesville, are now out of the hospital.
State Corrections Commissioner Chris Epps says the workers were assaulted Monday afternoon following a shakedown at the prison, but he is not sure what started the attack.
So far five inmates, believed to be among the attackers, have been identified. All have been moved to another prison and will face assault charges.
