USM Student Arrested For Yik-Yak Threat

HATTIESBURG, Miss– It was a threat on Yik-Yak against the Southern Miss campus. Now 20 year old Brandon Hardin of Carriere is in the lockup.

It was a threat on social media towards the campus, and now Brandon Hardin of Carriere, a business major, is behind bars and charged with sending threats via computer.

The red will flow tomorrow in JGH. I recommend missing class.”

That chilling threat was posted on Yik-Yak Monday and immediately set an investigation into motion. JGH, or Joseph Greene Hall, is the home of USM’s School of Business.

The credibility of the threat was in question, but University Police Chief Bob Hopkins says it was a threat that was not taken lightly.

“This is a threat of terrorist nature,” Chief Hopkins says,” and since it was a post of threatening nature, Yik-Yak is working with us.”

University Police, with the help of Yik-Yak, were able to identify and arrest Brandon Hardin Monday night. UPD doesn’t think anyone else is involved, but the investigation still continues.
