JACKSON COUNTY, Miss. – News Mississippi has confirmed that the State Auditor’s Office is investigating the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department. Last year former Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd was charged with a 31 count indictment from the state, which included charges of fraud and embezzlement.
Sources close to the investigation say the investigation may involve employees of the sheriff’s department who possibly gave away some of the department’s property.
