State Mourns Death of Barrier Breaker, Major General Catherine Lutz

JACKSON, Miss. — The first female General Officer to serve the Mississippi National Guard will be laid to rest Monday.

Major General Catherine Lutz, 58, died at her Flora home Thursday after a lengthy illness. Visitation is at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Guckstadt; and the funeral will follow.

Lutz was promoted General in 2011, after more than 30 years of military service.   Governor Phil Bryant has issued an executive order to lower all state and U.S. flags to half-staff Monday in honor of Lutz.
