STDs Soaring in the Magnolia State

JACKSON, Miss. – The number of Mississippians with STDs is alarming. The magnolia state is ninth in the country for HIV, fifth in the country for Chlamydia and third in the country for Gonorrhea.

HIV among African Americans is soaring in the state, it’s believed one in 100 are infected.

According to specialist in the field, many people around the state lack access to preventative measures or access to care in treating STDs.

The state health department has developed a free app for cell phone called Your Personal Sexual Health App, that provides testing, prevention and education materials on STDs.
