Super Bowl Sunday Washout Coming for Mississippi, Cold Monday

JACKSON, Miss.–If your Super Bowl plans include any cookouts or any outside activities at all, better rethink. It looks like Sunday will be a washout. Monday will be equally as uncomfortable, with cold coming back.

“Right now it doesn’t look like it’s going to be just an all-day event, but it could be a pretty good bit of rain,” said Eric Carpenter, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

He said a strong cold front will push through the state, starting in the early morning Sunday for northwest counties and spreading south through the day, finally into east Mississippi and southern counties overnight.

There could be a few storms and heavy showers.

Northern counties may even see some brief sleet or snow as the front comes through.

Carpenter said Monday highs will struggle to make it out of the upper 30s. But, the rain will be gone.
