The New Year is officially here, but let’s take a moment to look back on some of the top stories from 2018. It was a year in which Mississippi elected their first female Senator to the U.S. Congress. President Trump visited the state several times this year to host rallies endorsing Senator Hyde-Smith and held a roundtable discussion talking about prison reform.

The state legislature passed the most restrictive abortion ban and legalized a state lottery in an effort to fix the state’s failing infrastructure.

The deaths of two state police officers and a state trooper in a single weekend rocked the state as did the death of a baby in the Mississippi Delta. Ole Miss’s Chancellor resigned and Amazon announced that they will be bringing new jobs to the state with the creation of a distribution center in Marshall County.

Here’s a look at the top 15 stories from the past 12 months.
