U.S. Small Business Administration Begins Assessing Flood Damage in DeSoto County

DESOTO COUNTY, Miss. – Desoto County is still recovering from flooding that damaged Southaven and its surrounding areas last week. At Gov. Phil Bryant’s requrest, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) began assessing damages in the county Tuesday to determine if assistance would be available from the SBA in the form of low interest loans.

Currently Mississippi Emergency Management Agency’s (MEMA) Individual Assistance staff is working with displaced residents that have unmet housing needs and MEMA’s recovery staff is working with volunteer organizations to develop a community based recovery committee to assist citizens with unmet needs.

“Our goal is to ensure that we do everything we can to assist those affected by the devastating flooding last week,” said MEMA Executive Director Robert Latham. “We are grateful that the SBA responded to Gov. Bryant’s request so quickly and we are eagerly awaiting the determination of his request.”
