UMMC’s Dr. John Hall Named SEC Professor of the Year

JACKSON, Miss.- The Southern Conference (SEC) announced University of Mississippi Medical Center’s Dr. John Hall the 2014 Professor of the Year. 

Dr. John Hall was recognized for his excellence in the classroom and for his obesity and cardiovascular research. He has authored more than 530 publications and has been cited more than 35, 800 times. His Textbook of Medical Physiology is considered the leading medical physiology textbook and is translated in 14 languages and is one of 18 books he has written or edited.

“Dr. John Hall represents what is best about academic leadership in the SEC,” said Dr. Dan Jones, Chancellor at UMMC. “His reputation as an educator spans the globe and his contributions in the broad fields of medicine and physiology are substantial. He exemplifies the ideals we should all have for an SEC Professor of the Year.”

Hall won this award over at least 50,000 teachers and 14 universities in the SEC.

Hall said, “It means a lot to me personally and a lot for our team at UMMC. This has really been a team effort and the recognition that academics and research are important in the SEC are really important to us.”
