Legendary USM Basketball Coach Dies

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Former Southern Miss basketball coach M.K. Turk has died. He coached the team from 1976 to 1996, leading the Golden Eagles to win 301 games and take home the 1987 NIT Championship, which is the only national basketball title held by any Mississippi school. He also took USM to the NCAA tournament in 1990 and 1991.

Visitation for Turk will be Monday 5-7 p.m. at Heights Methodist Church in Hattiesburg. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Turk was 71-years-old.
